In the past couple of weeks Facebook has come under enormous pressure about their new Terms of Use. People claimed it was onerous and heavy handed. A great deal of discussion about the subject took place on blogs, on Facebook itself, and on Twitter.
Here’s the text of the notification shown on my Facebook newsfeed today.
Over the past few days, we have received a lot of good feedback about the new terms we posted two weeks ago. Because of this response, we have decided to return to our previous Terms of Use while we resolve the issues that people have raised.
It comes as no surprise that the source of Facebook’s success should also be the source of its potential failure. Social media is now a powerful platform for class struggle and social change and this fact is not being ignored by Facebook’s leadership.
