Today a tiny brown Dugite snake slithered into our office. He slid under our front door then dashed to the safety of a tiny gap between the carpet and the wall.
As it turns out, our office was full of snake-catching prowess. There’s Emily, who was quick to start the hunt for something safe to put him in. Then there was Noelene who fashioned a snake-catching device out of a towel and a stick. Tabatha did her bit and kept breathing. That was pretty handy being that she was with a client at the time.
As Tabs was hyperventilating the client watched on as we did our best to herd the slippery little viper into a cardboard box.
Eventually, Sammy the snake decided enough was enough so he started the vertical ascent straight up the inside of a piece of cabling conduit. Once we pried the front of that off Sammy was coaxed back down.
By this time Tabs had finished with the client so he was deputised as a snake catcher. Turns out he was quite the operator. As the snake slithered out of the bottom of the conduit and headed for the safety of the reception couch he deftly used a duster to guide the little fella into the waiting box.
Then it was off to Sammy’s new home – the river bank not far from our office.
The last I saw of him was his shiny little brown scales zipping across a bed of dead leaves.
I’m sure his new home will be much better than hanging out in our office.
