Vic Kitchen Food and Wine gets the food part right

February 28, 2014 by Peter Fletcher

If you’re looking for some quality Asian fusion food at a fair price, Vic Kitchen Food and Wine on Albany Highway is well worth a try.

We tried the crispy duck, the rice paper rolls, Mongolian lamb and Chilli and Basil prawns. They were, to say the least, tasty.

I especially loved the rice paper rolls, which were fresh and light and worked a treat as an appetiser.

The ambience lacks a little, though. The lights are perhaps a bit bright and the tables need  candles.

In fact the decor doesn’t match the food. As an Asian restaurant the modern, contemporary look of the furniture and lighting felt somehow out of place.

So did the name. I mean to say; Vic Kitchen? It sounds more like it should be serving pub food!

That said, our table of 4 enjoyed 2 serves of rice paper rolls, 3 mains, rice and the corkage on a bottle of plonk all for just under $110.

The one let down was the corkage charge. At around $10 they’ve set the price to discourage BYO and get people drinking the plonk from the bar. It’s a free market. Good on ’em I guess.

The food was great, service passable and it didn’t break the bank.

We’ll be going back again.
